Diana is by far and away my favorite, but not paired with Moon -- too goddessy! I'm not crazy about most of what people call 'timeless classics', they tend to make me yawn. I think the spelling Catherine is more classic though, very Wuthering Heights!

I agree with everything cm said, except that I think Mary and Melanie are also too much with Moon! Bianca Moon, while lovely, also seems a bit descriptive. I'm a big hater of Elizabeth, but I do think Eliza could be lovely. Names that I consider classic and elegant that have a bit of a Diana vibe without actually being the goddess of the moon include: Daphne, Julia or Juliet, Elena, Iris and Lucia. There is an SF author named Elizabeth Moon ; I really love some of her works, so that's a positive association for me. It's a pretty obscure association it's not like naming your kid Isaac Asimov or Robin Hobb but you might want to check out her works if you are seriously considering that name.

I agree that Diana Moon is a bit too on-the-nose.

Any interest in Diantha? Similar sound, but totally different derivation. The juxtaposition of a Catherine-with-a-C or Katherine-with-a-K issue and the name Diana makes me think of Anne of Green Gables , which makes me also want to suggest Cordelia or Anne for you :.

Greek Music of Byzantine Empire

I would probably not do Elizabeth Moon for that reason. Nothing against the author I actually haven't read her work, though she's been on my list for ages , but I feel that if I had a super distinctive name, I would want it to be fully my own. It's one thing to share a common name--you expect it--but sharing a distinctive name somehow cheapens it for me. I absolutely adore Catherine Moon. Agree about Diana Moon being too much of a good thing, but I love the suggestion of Diantha or Dianthe.

Go with Elizabeth Moon if you really love it, but just be aware that you will gain street cred in certain sci fi circles a plus, in my mind! Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Tales from Shakespeare (Paperback)

I agree that Diana paired with Moon is too goddessy-- something that didn't cross my mind. So glad that I asked. That'll be off the list. While both roll off the tongue nicely and sound wholesome, I like how Catherine looks softer, but am not sure how I feel about Cathy as a nn, as that will likely come up. Cate is a bit too advanced for me.

Leonora 6 Piece Rattan Sectional Set with Cushions

Katherine feels a bit more spunky and modern. I do like Kate as a nn but it seems there are a lot of Katherine's. This used to be a totally standard thing; it's only in the last few decades that people have started believing the misinformation that a nickname's spelling must be contained in its entirety in the full name. I agree with this, but I'll also add that I've known a few Cates, and it seems to work ok for them one was always Catherine as a child, but chose to go by Cate as an adult.
